The southern tip of Saaremaa, Sôrve Peninsula, extends into the Gulf of Riga. The peninsula is known for its natural attractions, rare birds and flowers. Like most Estonia, it has been a battleground over many centuries. The last fierce fighting took place here during the Second World War.
