The historic old town of Tallinn dominates the horizon when approaching its harbor from the Gulf of Finland. The first fortress was built here around 1050. Danish rule started in 1219 and in 1285 the town became member of Hanseatic League, known as Reval. It remains one of the best preserved “Walled Cities” in Europe.
