Dome of the Rock is a shrine, located on the Temple Mount in the Old city of Jerusalem, which Muslims believe commemorates Muhammed’s Night Journey into heaven around the year 621. Initially erected between 689 and 691, it has since seen several renovations. In 1993 the golden dome covering was refurbished by 80 kilograms of gold, contributed by King Hussein of Jordan.
