Dawn on Huayna Picchu, towering guardian of Machu Picchu. The trail to this rock formation is a remarkable example of Inca engineering and persistence, rising a thousand feet in a series of switchbacks and steep rock steps. The final path to the summit passes through a grotto where carved stairs lead to a small opening and the top.
