The Half Dome in Yosemite National Park is 8,840 feet high and stands at the eastern end of the Valley. In 1860-s it was considered to be perfectly unclimbable, until in 1875 George G. Anderson made the first ascent by drilling and placing iron eyebolts into the granite. Today there are several technical climbing routes on its vertical face. The first, called “Regular Northwest Face” took five days to climb. This route has now been soloed several times in a few hours.
