Mount Drum rises to 12,010 feet, twenty miles beyond Copper River. Like much of southern Alaska and western Canada, the Wrangell Mountains are of volcanic origin, active some 650,000 to 240,000 years ago. Neighboring peaks include Mount Blackburn (16,390 ft.) and Mount Sanford (16,237 ft.) both part of Wrangell-Saint Elias National Park and Preserve, the largest national park in the United States.
