Denali is the giant among giants, seen here from the north. The Wickersham Wall rising 15,000 feet from Peters Glacier (hidden behind brown foothills) was an early objective of ambitious mountaineers. Avalanche danger, however, has kept most climbers away. Most routes today follow ridgelines, where the wind might be ferocious, but the avalanches are fewer.
