Caribou flee a pair of wolves through the Hulahula River. This herd had paid little attention to the photographer’s raft, but when the four-legged predators arrived, their response was swift. The coastal plain and Brooks Range foothills are traditional calving grounds for caribou, who migrate to the area in early summer. The Porcupine Herd alone totals to more than 123,000.
